How to Set Desktop Wallpaper

A comprehensive guide to help you set beautiful wallpapers on your Windows PC or Mac computer.

Right-click anywhere on your desktop screen (not on an icon) to open a context menu.

Click on "Personalize" in the context menu. This opens the personalization settings.

Click on "Background" in the left sidebar. This opens the desktop background settings.

Click the "Browse" button under "Choose your picture" and navigate to your downloaded wallpaper. Or choose from Windows built-in themes.

Choose how the wallpaper displays: Fill, Fit, Stretch, Tile, Center, or Span. For ultrawide monitors, "Span" works best.

Click the Apple menu (top-left corner) and select "System Settings" (or "System Preferences" on older macOS versions).

Click on "Wallpaper" in the sidebar. You can also use keyboard shortcut: ⌘ + Space and type "Wallpaper".

Click the "+" button to add a folder or photo. Navigate to your downloaded wallpaper and select it.

Select which display to apply the wallpaper to. Use the dropdown to choose how the image fills the screen: Fill, Fit, Stretch, Center, or Tile.

Use an ultra-wide wallpaper or "Span" mode to create a seamless background across all monitors.

Set different wallpapers for each monitor through your display settings for more customization.

Download wallpapers that match your combined resolution for the best panoramic effect.

Consider apps like Wallpaper Engine (Windows) or Plash (Mac) for dynamic and animated wallpapers.

Use 4K (3840×2160) or higher resolution wallpapers for crisp, clear images on modern displays.

Simpler wallpapers with less detail reduce visual clutter and make icons easier to find.

If you have an OLED monitor, dark wallpapers can significantly reduce power consumption.

Choose wallpapers with darker areas where your taskbar (Windows) or dock (Mac) will sit.
